Motivation

I’ve been feeling like crap all week fighting off some allergic response; something I ran into in the city on Saturday. So today I’ve been working but feeling a little less energetic than usual. It got me thinking about motivation.

We all need motivation to get through the stuff that doesn’t excite us. Besides aiming at our desired outcome what helps provide motivation when it is tough?

As I pondered this while I plodded through my day I decided that what makes the motivation come up is the intent to provide the means to affect others lives in a positive way. At the end of the day money is important but not the most important. Most of us value what we do. What really resonates with us is when someone says to us, “What you did changed my life.” Those few words make it all worthwhile and keep us working when we want to quit.

Cliff, I hope you feel better soon. When our body is fighting something we will go into repair mode. Our body will make us sleepy so that it can reserve all energy to try and fight and repair.. unfortunately we do not allow ourselves this time because we come across as lazy, unmotivated; a slacker. We need to change this and allow the time for our body to heal so that we can feel motivated once again.
When I was working in Mexico I consulted with hundreds of patients and taught hundreds of students about digestive health. I had no idea the impact I had on them because most did not follow up. It was not until I was on a speaking tour did I realize the impact I had when people would, hug me, thank me, cry, and give me gifts… it is so rewarding and I am so blessed to have had this opportunity as it kept me moving forward to know that although I may not know the outcomes I choose to believe I have made a difference and this motivates me daily. Oh, and when I feel under the weather I honour my body and just become an unmotivated slacker knowing my body is motivated to repair me!

Thanks Karen. That is quite helpful. When I’m sick I’m very careful with what I eat and drink (even more than usual) so I’ve been feeling okay. It’s just the energy isn’t there so I have no choice. So this week’s heavy exercise was out. Thanks again for the insight.
